Bible of Mary Winston Jewel Shields - part 1

Bible of Mary Winston Jewel Shields This Bible was in the possession of Mary Shields at the time of her death. It was a gift to her from her "Aunt Lucy" (Lucinda Nunley). Except for the original inscription at the front indicating that Lucinda Nunley presented the book to Winnie Jewel on 30 August 1932, the handwriting is that of Winnie Jewel Shields. The information was most probably compiled from that listed in the Bible records that follow. This is a very small Bible —— only 3¾" by 5¾" and about 2¼" deep.

MRS. LUCY NUNLEY

Mrs. Lucy Nunley, 90, died at her home near Edgement Monday, Nov 27 at 5:40 am, following a several weeks illness as the result of a fall. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The pallbearers were: E.H. Charlton, Wiley Sutphin, A.L. Page, J.S. Hughes, Guy Poff and Curren Charlton.

Mrs. Nunley was probably the oldest resident of the county. She was the widow of Isaac Nunley. Surviving are the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. James Gary, Mrs. V. Walters and Leslie Jewel of Roanoke, Riner Jewel of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Hans Voetcher and Miss Winnie Jewel of Baltimore, Md., and Joe Jewel of Christiansburg and Richmond.
