Would you like to submit details on someone to be included in one of our four WorldConnect databases? Start by filling in our online Family Group Sheet and we'll take it from there. Details on those individuals who may still be living will NOT be published online.

Would you like some help with the design and layout of your genealogy site? I am willing to work with you on setting up the design and layout of your genealogy website. Why? Because I enjoy doing it. See some examples of sites I have helped with. I do this on a volunteer basis so may occasionally have to limit the amount of time I can spend with you. If interested, contact Pat.

Family Genealogy - Jewell or Jewel Family  Genealogy

The main focus of this study is the family genealogy the Jewel family and their collateral lines. At least three of the four lines - the Jewels, Halls, and Vanovers all lived in a narrow but picturesque little valley bordered by steep mountains in Montgomery County in southwest Virginia. The families were all settled there before 1800. They were neighbors, friends, bought and sold land from each other, and intermarried.

This family genealogy concentrates on four main family lines - Jewel, Graham, Hall, and Vanover - who were early settlers in Western Virginia, some only a few years after the Revolution. (The Grahams may have been among the earliest pioneers.) It becomes understandable why their antecedents disappear in the mists of a time and place of few records poorly kept.

This web site is the result of many years of research and the contributions of many "cousins" who have been more than willing to share their family information. If they had not been so generous, this site would not be what it is today. My husbands family spelled the surname with only one L - Jewel. Most of the other lines have used LL - Jewell.

"Genealogy is the study and tracing of family pedigrees. This involves collecting the names of relatives, both living and deceased, and establishing the relationships between them based on primary, secondary and/or circumstantial evidence or documentation, thus building up a cohesive family tree. Genealogy is sometimes also referred to as family history, although sometimes these terms are used distinctly: the former being the basic study of who is related to whom; the latter involving more "fleshing out" of the life histories of the individuals involved." - From "genealogy."
