Family Genealogy - Tucker Family Genealogy

The Tucker family of New England is my maternal line. All branches of that line  were from New England. While some of the various family genealogies have been traced  back to England, my main focus has been the families during the time they resided in New England - mainly Vermont and New Hampshire.

Because New England records are particularly good, this part of my family genealogy search was much easier. Mom gave me what information she could and I started writing letters to the town clerks and courthouses to request the various records on my family. Then we made two camping trips to Vermont and New Hampshire. Our travels took us to a little town in Vermont, Starksboro, and a small cemetery there. In looking at the various graves, I found a small American flag on one. "Maybe you have a Revolutionary War ancestor," says my husband. After returning home, I wrote to the National Archives to try and find out. Low and behold, I hit a gold mine. Yes, my 4th great grandfather, Solomon Phillips,  did serve in the American Revolution, and yes he did collect a pension as did his wife after his death. The file was quite complete. I was now off and running.

"Genealogy is the study and tracing of family pedigrees. This involves collecting the names of relatives, both living and deceased, and establishing the relationships between them based on primary, secondary and/or circumstantial evidence or documentation, thus building up a cohesive family tree. Genealogy is sometimes also referred to as family history, although sometimes these terms are used distinctly: the former being the basic study of who is related to whom; the latter involving more "fleshing out" of the life histories of the individuals involved." - From "genealogy." Tucker Family Genealogy, Rufus and His Descendants

My great-great-great grandmother, Mehitable Tucker, is the first person identified in the Tucker family. Her surname is not known so the family genealogy begins with my gr-gr-grandfather, Rufus Blodgett Tucker.

Phillips Family Genealogy - Solomon and His Descendants

Solomon Phillips is my 4th great-grandfather and fought in the American Revolution. The family genealogy begins with him and is traced from Rhode Island to Massachusetts to Vermont where many of his descendants still live. His parents have not been identified.

McLaughlin Family Genealogy

The family genealogy of the McLaughlins begins in New Boston, New Hampshire where Amos and his siblings were born and then to Vermont. Amos McLaughlin's parents were recently identified as David McLaughlin and Lydia (Ober) Hull. When they arrived in this country is not known.

Sherman Family Genealogy

The Sherman family was first identified in England. Much has been written on the early genealogy of this family. My research efforts on the family genealogy have been concentrated on the family after they moved to Vermont.

Ayers/Ayres Family Genealogy

The early history of the Ayres family appears to be lost in confusion over names. Certainly, the antecessors of this family prior to the arrival of John at Ipswich, cannot be easily traced. I have concentrated my efforts in researching this family genealogy in Brookfield, Massachusetts and Barnard, Vermont.

Curtis Family of England and Topsfield Massachusetts

This family came from England in the 1600's - first to Massachusetts and then to New Hampshire and Vermont. The majority of my research has been after their move into Vermont and New Hampshire.
